Frequently Asked Questions
-
Do i have to set time and altitude together to stop the motor?
No, each the time or altitude value could be set individually. If you set 0 to any of them the Calm Altimeter will not stop the motor with that. If you set both, the one that is reached first will trigger the motor stop.

-
Is it possible to restart the motor after the Calm Altimeter turns it off?
The Calm Altimeter has an Emergency restart fuction which could be enable or disabled and it gives a visual sign about the statement. There are competitions where emergency restart is banned.

-
What kind of application is needed to read the logs or telemetry?
The Calm Altimeter has its own webserver taht is providing the user interface. You only need to connect to its Wifi and open the GUI in a web browser.

-
Can I use the Calm Altimeter without a smartphone?
Yes, you can use and fly with it without connecting to your smartphone after you set the parameters once.
-
How i can see the telemetry data?
The Calm Altimeter broadcasts real-time telemetry data on Wifi. You can use your smartphone to connect to see altitue, variometer, TA vario*, GPS speed* (* only if a GPS module is attached).
-
What is the difference between the internal and external antenna?
The Wifi coverage is depending on the environment and antenna placement. The internal antenna is on the panel itself and its range might be impacted by the cables or the fuselage material. The external antenna has a wire of about 10cm and you can place it even outside of the fuselage to decrease any interference.

-
Telemetry is banned in competitions. Can I disable that feature?
Yes, Telemetry during the flight could be disabled.
-
Can I follow the airplane's position in real-time on the map?
If Telemetry during the flight is enabled and a GPS module is connected you can check the momentary position of the airplane if the Wifi connection is up.
-
I bought the Calm Altimeter without GPS. Can I connect my own GPS unit?
Calm Altimeter is supporting a wide range of GPS modules that is working on 3.3V and have four connectors (3.3V, GND, RX, TX). It is recognizing and sets up automatically the GPS units.
-
What happens if the unit’s memory gets full?
Calm Altimeter has 3MB of memory for storage files. Flight data volume is depending on the sample speed and if there is a GPS connected. You can delete the log files manually or enable automatic log deletion (FIFO) to avoid memory shortage.
-
What types of radios and receivers are compatible with the Calm Altimeter?
The Calm Altimeter is independent of the radio (brand). It should be wired in series between the receiver and the ESC on the throttle channel. The Calm Altimeter is forwarding the receiver’s PWM signal to the ESC or overrides it when it needs to stop the motor.
-
What is triggering the Calm Altimeter to start the flight and measure time and/or altitude?
The Calm Altimeter is continuously detecting the throttle level. Normally it is PWM 1000-2000. It starts the motor and forwards the throttle value if it reaches 1200 one time.
-
My radio was set to other throttle signal values (e.g. 1100-1900) and the ESC was calibrated to that. Can I use the Calm Altimeter?
Yes, you can set the minimum throttle value in the Calm Altimeter setup so it can adapt and forward the same values to your ESC that you have already calibrated.
